GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally-funded program designed to prepare students in West Virginia to pursue and be successful in their higher education goals.

Welcome to WVU Tech!

During the Fall 2019 semester, we welcomed our first class of WV GEAR UP students to the WVU-Tech family! With an office based inside the Learning Commons (across from the Student Success Center) Room 220, our goal is to ensure students have a smooth transition from high school to college. We are also directly connected with the Student Success Center for optimal services. Some of the additional academic support services available to all WV GEAR UP – WVU Tech students include success coaching, tutoring, workshops and social events to help students acclimate to their new academic home and give them a chance to connect and build a community with other new Golden Bears. There will also be opportunities for parent/guardian engagement each semester.

Your first year in college is full of change and growth, so our department is here to help you make that transition. Please feel free to reach out when needed. Questions and drop-ins are always welcome!

Student Eligibility

If a first-time freshman student attended/graduated in spring 2020 from one of the high schools in the participating counties, they are automatically eligible to receive WV GEAR UP assistance at WVU Tech. To see if you're eligible, view our list of participating schools by county.
